ANCHORAGE — An Anchorage Correctional Complex officer was assaulted by two inmates, one of whom tried to make an escape during the altercation.

The Alaska Dispatch reports that the unnamed officer was lured to open the cell with a toilet paper request Tuesday afternoon. Once the cell door was open, the inmates rushed the officer and placed the officer in a chokehold.

Other officers responded, separating the inmates from the officer. One inmate attempted to escape, but could not force open a nearby exit. They then attempted to hide in the shower room.

An investigation into the incident revealed that the inmates had been discussing escape plans.

The officer was sent to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The inmates will be charged with second and fourth-degree assault, as well as attempted escape charges.
